The chaste tree is also known as vitex, native to the eastern Mediterranean. It has been recorded in history as the herb that helped soldiers’ wives remain chaste when their husbands had gone for battle. In the Middle Ages, monks widely used it to suppress sexual desire. It has a strong effect on the female reproductive system and has been suggested to expel the placenta after birth and control hemorrhages. As of now, it is used to manage symptoms of PMS, pharmacological issues, and cyclic mastalgia.
